There are a lot of library's around the country who have pets. There are pet cats, turtles, mice, hamsters, fish and of course birds. We all like to keep in touch and there has been an issue that affects us library pets. Someone who we're sure is trying to help has been taking some of our friends from their homes and setting them free in the wild. Now they do this because they don't like to see animals in cages. While animals in cages can be bad, you really must talk with the owner before taking action.
Thus Kyp and I are sharing this note. We do live in a cage, but that does not mean we are unhappy. We are cared for - we get plenty of attention, clean food and water daily, bath water is available, our cage is cleaned weekly. We get treats and toys (though we don't really like them much). We are happy.
What would happen if you released us? Well if we're let loose in the library we would be scared - so many people who may touch us, fans on the ceiling that could hurt us and a variety of other dangerous things that could harm us. If you released us outside we would not be able to find food for ourselves as we were breed in captivity. We've lived our whole lives in a cage and would not be able to survive in the wild. Plus Zebra Finches are native to Australia not America and we would freeze when the weather turned cold. Ultimately if you set us free - you would be endangering our lives.
While there are animals that should not be in cages, you really need to ask first before freeing an animal. Miss Renee is glad to answer any questions you may have about our care and she is more than happy to show you our health file if you ask. So please remember - find out the facts first before you act.
