First Battle: Birdwatchers vs. the Pigeon

The Birdwatchers by Simon James is my favorite bird book.  It tells about all the wonderful things birds can do.  Though humans think the book is funny - but I know for a fact that birds can draw, read, and dance.  I do all those things.  Plus there were so many different kinds of birds mentioned, though I was disappointed nobody mentioned finches.  It is also cute that bird watching is something the little girl Jess and her Granddad can do together.  Overall its a fun book with lots of birds.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems is my favorite bird book. I have to admit that I don't get why the Driver doesn't let Pigeon drive the bus, birds are very good with directions.  Pigeon gives a lot of good reasons why he should drive the bus, and if I was watching the bus I think I'd let Pigeon drive - after I got a turn of course.  Pigeon is right though - birds never get to do anything.  Miss Renee doesn't let us do a lot either. So I can relate to Pigeon.  So give the book a try - and maybe you'll let Pigeon drive.

Older Kids Battle:
N.E.R.D.S.: National Espionage, Rescue and Defense Society by Michael Buckley is my favorite pick for older readers.  How can you not want to read this book - its all about spies. When Jackson, the most popular kid in school, gets braces his world falls apart.  He has become an outcast, but he soon discovers the nerdiest kids in school are leading the coolest lives ever!  This book was so cool - I'd love to be a spy.  It has evil villains, cool gadgets and all the things you want in a spy book plus it s for kids!

School Days According to Humphrey by Betty Birney is my favorite pick for older readers.  Humphrey has enjoyed a summer away from school but he's looking forward to going back and being the classroom pet again.  That is until his class is filled with strangers - where are all his friends.  Humphrey needs to find them and get this new class out.  It's a great book about being a class pet - sort of like what me and Kyp do here at the library.  By reading this you may have a window into what we do here at the library.  It's a great book - it could only get better if it had more birds in it.
